The Sanura X-Tray is a shower tray with integrated Waste Water Heat Recovery (WWHR), which is able to cut the energy used when showering by nearly half (up to 47%).
Save Energy when Showering
Showering is often overlooked as a significant energy use in homes, but it is actually the most energy demanding appliance you will have (after your central heating system). A typical shower uses 10-15kw of energy when it's running - that is the same as 5 to 8 electric kettles! What's even worse is that the waste shower water going down the drain is still hot, containing 90% of the heat energy that was put into it and is simply going down the drain. It's like having your heating on with your windows open - it is not an efficient thing to do!
This is where Waste Water Heat Recovery steps in - it recovers the heat energy from the waste water and puts it back into the hot water system. This reduces the amount of energy used by your shower, saving energy and money. It also has an extra benefit - since it reduces the amount of hot water required, it increases the heat capacity of your hot water system, meaning you can run your shower for longer without running out of hot water.
Increase your SAP & achieve Part L of the Building Regulations
Part L is the energy performance of a new building - all new buildings must achieve a certain SAP score to pass. WWHR is usually one of the most cost effective products that you can use to increase your SAP score, and Sanuras easy installation, passive operation and easy access for cleaning makes it a top product for new build. This is especially true for flats and apartments, where its self contained design makes it a simple option to design and fit into any bathroom designs.
Installation
The Sanura shower tray is very simple to install - it simply replaces a normal shower tray, so whether it is a new build or just a bathroom renovation, Sanura is extremely easy to be installed by your plumbing or M&E contractor. Pipework is minimal, as the system will usually be installed in SAP System B, meaning that it is pre-heting the cold water supply to the shower only. However, in new builds, you may consider installing it in SAP System A, where the pre-heated supply also goes to your water heater, for a larger energy saving.
Depending upon the construction of the floor of the bathroom, the Sanura shower tray can be surface mounted (step up) or flush mounted (walk in).
The height of the shower tray is just 75mm, and an extra 50mm is required for the drain connection, making the total height of the unit as 125mm.
Flush Mounted (walk in)
When installing the X-Tray flush mounted, you are fitting the unit so that it is integrated into the floor. This allows for less of a step up into the unit. Exactly how much the unit can be sunken into the floor will depend upon your floor construction and drainage.
Surface Mounted (step up)
If there is no available space in the floor/sub-floor, you may choose to surface mount the shower tray, that is to install the unit on top of the existing floor. This will require a small step up into the shower. The installation for this method is the same, however you may require some optional extra materials to help with the installation.
Adjustable Feet
Adjustable feet can be fitted to the base of the unit to support the units frame so that it is not resting on the drain. The feet are adjustable 50-65mm. They may be required depending upon the sub-floor structure, please speak with your installer or contact us if in doubt.
Side Trim
If installing the Sanura x-tray surface mounted, you will need to box in the sides of the shower tray that are above the floor level. Your installer can do this with tiles that you're using with the bathroom, however we can also supply white trim to match the top of the shower tray.
Easy Access and Cleaning
Other horizontal WWHR systems suffer from being inaccessible - this is a problem if the unit becomes clogged and requires unblocking or cleaning. However, the design of the Sanura means access to the internal components of the system is extremely easy - simply lift up the base plate and you have full access to the heat exchange system. It also incorporates 2 removable drain filters (one before and another after the heat exchange) to make any cleaning quick and easy.
