Aim: To improve the quality of life in homes through good daylighting and to reduce the need for energy to light the home.

Assessment Criteria:Credits are awarded for the dwelling meeting the criteria below:

What are Daylight Calculations?

Daylight calculations are carried out by to determine the effectiveness of natural light that is anticipated to penetrate a room, factors such as the size of the opening, reflectivity of surfaces and view of clear sky from a window will all affect the daylight factor in a room, the results of the calculations gives the daylight factor (DF) for the room. The DF is required to reach different calculations levels for different rooms.

- Kitchens must achieve a minimum Average Daylight Factor (DF) of at least 2%

(1 credit available if achieved)

 

- All living rooms, dining rooms and studies (including any room designated as a home office under ENE 9 - Home Office) must achieve a minimum Average Daylight Factor (DF) of at least 1.5%.

(1 credit available if achieved)

 

- 80% of the working plane in each room (including any room designated as a home office under ENE 9 - Home Office) must receive direct light from the sky.

(1 credit available if achieved)

 

A total of 3 credits are available if all criteria for day lighting is met.


The calculations can be used to achieve the required credits within the Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment.

We only require you to provide us with sufficient plans of the project you wish to obtain daylight calculations for, such as floor plans, elevations and a site plan.

We will complete all the necessary calculations and provide you with a daylight calculations report outlining all the credits you have achieved for issue HEA1 - Average Daylight Calculations and the No-Sky Line.

 
 

Daylight Calculation

We provide a Daylight Calculation service that is carried out to determine the effectiveness of natural light that is anticipated to penetrate a room.
